Afaf (meaning "chaste" in Arabic) is a half Persian/half Indian. Her mother was the only child of a learned brahmin in her village in Western India. She was abducted during a raid led by Persians, and became the slave of the warrior who took her. Afaf was taught Hindi and Sanskrit from her mother, and showed an amazing aptitude for memorization. She learned many of the Sanskrit sacred texts by heart, though she could not read.
When Afaf was 12 her mother died in childbirth, along with the child. Afaf's father, uncomfortable with how hot his slave daughter was becoming, sold her to a Arab slave merchant. He in turn sold her to a wealthy man in Mecca, who placed her in his harem. There she learned the arts of entertainment, and often recited poetry for her master, or played the 'ud. She was kidnapped by Karmathians when Hassan Azam lost two of his wives to living death. Finally, at age 18, she watched the tower that had been her home for the past few years sink into the ocean, and then saw almost everyone she knew killed by a flying elf. When said elf asked her to become his slave girl and travel with him on crazy dangerous adventures she said yes. Wisdom has never been her strong suit.
Harald married Af-Af in secret.
Killed by a Blade Barrier cast by a Tailed Man priest. Resurrected by Pope John XV, but failed her check. Buried with tears in Rome. Brought back to life by a combination of a wish by Harald and a boon from the Goddess Athena.
