Chris: So this is the buzzing the Smitty the Demon was freaked out about? Anybody know why he would be freaked out by this? Why he would only be allowed to read every other word? I must admit, I only skimmed it...
Noah: While there is certainly buzzing in this text, I don't think it is *THE* Buzzing, the dread Al Aziz. To wit: Smitty mentioned that the following passage appears somewhere within the text:
"octopuses...return...that...when...is...distracted".
and our text does not contain that passage or, indeed, mention octopuses anywhere. The Al Aziz may be one of the texts that Philip mu mu mu mu mu'ed out. More likely, he had the demon memorize every other word and then destroyed the original.
What this text does have, though, is a lot of words I don't recognize. Arben got a few of them, but not nearly enough, I think, for us to piece too much of this out. It seems to me that Al-Wathiq might be some kind of bardic lich. Weird, right?

Karabasmos = Cyrus the Great? He is mentioned in the text, and he was killed by Tomyris, after whom Tomi may be named. She cut off his head and put it in a wineskin filled with blood. Hence, his skull may well have ended up on Kogaeon, near Tomi.
What the hell is that?
Chris: Do you think a Dispel Magic might take out those Mu's? Or make the text beneath legible? Worth a shot, any way, right? Also, do you think the Al Aziz might be hidden in the the buzzing in this book? Two books in one? Did anyone try detect magic on all those buzzes?
Noah: We haven't tried to detect magic on the buzzes, but that's a good idea. There are two spells from the PH that might relate: secret page and illusionary script. In both instances, dispel magic will work if successful, but if unsuccessful will destroy the writing. Otherwise, true seeing combined with comprehend languages will reveal the underlying writing. Given what God said about Philip possessing a special ink that MMMMMMMMMMMMM, the component for illusionary script may be telling: "a lead-based ink that requires special manufacture by an alchemist..." although secret page has the required components of 'powdered herring scales and ... will o' wisp essence,' and he certainly had a will o' wisp hanging around for his use. In any event, we're probably better off not trying dispel magic, since it will likely require a roll of a 20 to work, and any other result will destroy it irrevocably.
Chris: Well, maybe for the Mu's. But the buzzing was written by someone else. Admittedly, someone pretty powerful, but still, it could be someone else entirely.
