Maggie's hyperbole aside, detect noise has been useful on a number of occasions, even unto granting the party combat advantages (which, if pressed, I will list to the best of my ability) and is not adjudicated in the manner which she describes.  I don't know what the real kernel of Maggie's hostility towards the skill might be, but I would really hate to see this rule implemented. (Not the least of which because Eorl's got a pretty sweet score in it!)

Maggie sez: yes, you should list all occasions.  But, keep in mind that I probably wrote this page 'cause I didn't want to be left out with everyone else making new rules and that's the first thing I thought of.  Hooray for rules (rulez)!

Noah: I like detect noise and find it very useful. It is one of the few ways the party has of determining what might be down a darkened corridor or behind a closed door without actually venturing forth into harms way to discover what is there. I also think that the skill makes perfect sense -- rogues simply have more acute hearing than other classes because it comes with the territory.
