So, Evelake was once a knight in the time shortly after Christ's resurrection. He had a magical shield and his own magic sword, and was given the grail and Excalibur(aka Caliburn or the swrod of David) to guard. His sword begins to break, and he draws Excalibur but loses his balls for the trouble. He turns from Christ and puts both swords into stones, his own and Excalibur. His career after that gets hazy. Presumably he sits around being evil for a while, though he always has a name with the same meaning: Eve lake, Dark tarn, Dusky tarn, Shank mere. What is with the dark lake? Is this a clue to his lair location, or a reference to Nimu, Lady of the Lake?
Then we show up and set loose Lilith, who then sleeps with Harald, probably producing Lady Thora, who is an likely an alu-demon. Who knows where Lord Valdemar came from.
Now it is written that Evelake can be defeated by the grail knight. (Note to tcm- Not the grail itself, but the Grail Knight) However the grail knight (Galahad) has come and gone, and Evelake is still around being bad. Why? Will there be antoher Grail knight?
Evelake's known powers: Power words Stun and Blind, Fireball for a ton of damage, supernatural strength, immune to normal weapons, good MR. He beat Harald senseless with only his hands. Doesn't want to kill us for some reason.
Noah: I think it is fairly conclusive that he doesn't want to kill us just in case we find some more stuff that he wants. Despite what has posted regarding the most recent encounter, the reasons why he beat up the party this time remain unclear (unless someone can correct me on that point).
Also, what makes you think it is the grail *knight* that must defeat Evelake? It seems to me that he needs only to set his eyes on the grail and he will be undone.
And when did he cast fireball? I know he cast wall of ice in the initial encounter, and was wreathed in flames for a round when we attacked (he also radiates fear on sight), but I don't remember him ever casting fireball.
Presumably he knows power word kill as well, but didn't use it.
At least we now know conclusively that he sides with the octopuses, and, in his own words, wants us to lose. But the reasons why are still, I think, unclear.
