Life is hard when you are a blind gnome. Topplepoof was born twelth son of a pair of destitute gnomish scum in Jerusalem. He was blind from birth, with eyes that where a very creepy-loking solid black. As such he was quickly sold to Hillel, the beggar-king of Jersalem for a loaf of stale bread. His only inheritance from his birth family was a traditionally ridiculous gnomish name. He did well as a beggar, picking pockets while asking people to lead him from begging spot to spot. However, he hated his miserable existence and the need to give all of his earnings to his master in exchange for a meager amount of food and a relatively safe place to sleep. Topplepoof was often assigned to begging outside of a local cabbalistic academy, and he would overhear lectures while working. The students were a favorite target of his, because they were so absent-minded that they never knew how much money they were carrying in the first place. With time, Topplepoof developed an uncanny ability to pick mages out of a crowd, and eventually he learned how to pick their minds clean of spells while picking thier pockets clean of cash. After enough practice he greeted his employer with a Charm Person, and was given his freedom and a small pile of cash. He jumped onto the first ship he could find, planning on getting as far away from Hillel as he could before the Chram wore off. He ended up in Sicily, and fell in with Trappo, sensing that he could probably steal a spell from Harald now and then.
