Abulfatah was member of a berber tribe of moderate size. From a young age he was an excellent horseman, and a better horse thief. He was a valued member of the night-raiding parties that targeted caravans and other tribes from the time he was 13. While his brusque manner and aloof disposition ensured that he had few friends and no romantic liaisons, at least he was regarded as capable at his job. After a few years he let his success go to his head. Why was he not given a larger share of the booty, instead of it going to his parents?, he wondered to himself. Why didn't the girls look at him with interest? At last he couldn't stand it anymore. He demanded that to be given a man's full share, and a wife. He was not greedy; he gave three choices as to girls that would suffice as a first wife for him, and only two of them were daughters of the chief. He was given a lashing instead, and told that the chief would do him the favor of forgetting this presumptuousness, since Abulfatah was such a good thief. That night Abulfatah decided to use his skills to steal the chief's daughter, the younger, prettier one. He knew his trade well, and made it far away on an excellent horse he had stolen a week before. Needless to say, his captive was not pleased. On the third night after his escape he was somewhat rudely awoken by a blue man 9 feet tall. A brief fight followed, and then Abulfatah's broken, unconscious body was whisked back to his tribesmen, along with his erstwhile captive. Needless to say he was horribly tortured, with his face cut and his manhood removed. He was spared death only by a fortuitous raid by a rival clan. His rescuers thought him dead, and buried him with the other corpses. Well, he thought, at least I know this is as bad as it can get.
Then the Ghuls came.
How he managed to get away is something that he has blocked from his mind. He traveled from place to place, stealing here, begging there. He spent time in Libya, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Yemen before stowing away on a ship headed to Spain. En route his vessel was waylaid by the dreaded Barnacle Bashim, and he jumped overboard. Not knowing how to swim he sank quickly, but by seizing a stone he was able to walk along the bottom of the sea until he reached the nearby shore of Sicily. He hid until nightfall, and then snuck away. After some wandering he heard that TrapoII was collecting a pirate crew, no questions asked. Longing for human contact, Abulfatah decided to sign up. He hopes this will not end in shit like everything else he's done.
