Rules Clarifications, misc.
From Record Of Fantasy Adventure Venture
- We have forgotten this in the past, but stunned does not equal unconscious or paralyzed; stunned creatures lose their dexterity and shield bonuses, and cannot attack (and may be subject to other penalties, depending on the nature of the stunning), but they cannot be coup de graced the way unconscious or paralyzed characters can.
- Paralyzed (or sleeping) characters get no saving through against spells like fireball and lightning bolt; they do get saves against spells that are passively resisted, like disintegrate, hold person, flesh to stone, etc.
- The saving throw table is organized, left to right, such that one saves on the first applicable category. Thus hold person or a wand of paralyzation permits saves against paralysis, not spells or wands. This means the description of the flesh to stone spell in the PH is incorrect: its save should be vs petrification.
- Despite the implications to the contrary in the game books, strength and dexterity bonuses to hit for hurled missiles do not stack. The higher bonus applies.
- Also, despite the starry-eyes claims of certain players (and barring anyone locating a contrary passage in a rulebook), having an arrow knowcked permits one to shoot before initiative only in the case of bow specialists. Obviously this has no effect on the regular game, but may or may not have implications in the Battle Royale.
