Karl was living the quiet life of a gem polisher, mostly acting as a house-husband to his adventuring wife, Lydia. He raised their son, Karl Jr., who was always interested in following his mother's footsteps. While Karl Jr. didn't have his mother's talent for illusions, he did have her bravery, and was soon out making a name for himself as a treasure hunter.

Unfortunately, Lydia's career soon caught up with her and she died of Leukemia. With his son fully grown, Karl found his home to be quite lonely and decided to change his life. His sold the gem polishing shop and bought himself some chainmail, a battle axe, and a set of lock picks. He tracked down his son to apprentice with him in the treasure hunting business. It was fun for a little while, but Junior got tired of dealing with his father's midlife crisis. They had a big blow out and parted company.

Karl felt he wasn't quite ready to strike out on his own. While grabbing a drink at a local pub, he heard some tales of the world famous Danger Gang and their treasure hunting ways. Karl decided this was the type he should team up with, so he follows the trail to Samothrace where he ran into them in the Forbidden Valley. He's now hanging out with those guys, jockeying for membership.

Recently captured a pair of magical living tongs that he has named Tongsy. He's trying to train them, but without much success.
