A region of the Kievan Empire.
The capital city, also named Novgorod, is said to have been founded by Baba Iakulu aka Ikulu because of the special properties of the soil: that which is buried there does not decompose. It is a major river port city located in the Volga River. Unlike Kiev, Norse is in fairly common use here.
