Seems like there’s always been a rumor of buried treasure jest over the horizon, and Olympiodorus has always fallen for it. At the age of thirteen he left a moderately successful farming family in rural southern Italy to seek Saracen gold in Sicily with a bunch of adventurous Lombards. One hide in shadows roll later and he alone survived to tell the tale. After that it was up and down the coast of Italy, digging for caches of Roman, or even Etruscan, gold. Many years passed in this fashion.
Olympiodorus is craftier than he looks, and has managed to survive this long by judicious estimation of when it’s time to slip away and hide. He’s dogged enough to keep digging when those who are after a fast buck have long since given up. This can be a positive trait, insofar as it can get you a find others would miss; it can also be a negative one, as by the time you’ve found your next source of income, your last one is long gone, and you’ve been living off pinecones for a month. Oh, well.
After discovering on a mountain in Athos that sometimes having an adventuring party around means finding the treasure an order of magnitude faster than you would have otherwise (not to mention access to miraculous healing) he followed the Danger Gang to Chrysopolis and joined up with the Thief Taker's with the express understanding that of anything he found, his cut would be largest. Or at least equal. Or... good golly, let's find some treasure!
Ran into the Following Alexander Party in the Monastery of St. Maximin. He avoided being killed by the party, and even helped out by backstabbing Ogrid the Alebrewer. Kind of has a gnomish accent. Kind of a pussy when it comes to combat, though.
