Some Cyclops-kin Try To Assassinate The Danger Gang
After their nice long break, the Danger Gang is finally ready to hit the road and find some Danger. That is, they would be, if it weren't for the last few errands they want to take care of in Constantinople. Gershom asks if anybody wants to come help him in his final day of research, and Arben needs to find some ratsbane for the governor's mansion. Beau agrees to tag along. AS they head down to the dock, they run into Lugurix who introduces them to the mysterious Zahrah. She explains that she's on the trail of Kabar Hadra and had heard that some one from around here had been mulling about the monument. Arben drops some knowledge bombs on her about Kabar Hadra and the octopuses, with help from a few texts from the Gregory Memorial Library. Her mind is, undertandably, blown.
They head down to the beach to grab a boat to Constantinople. This is to be simple jaunt across the Bosperus, however, dear reader. No simple jaunt, indeed, for out of the sea comes a quartet of bony snakes with human skulls. Arben quickly identifies them as Necrophidii, and warns his companions of their paralyzing bite. Unfortunately, he was unaware of their hypnotizing gaze, and early into combat Beau falls under their sway. Luckily, the Necrophidius that influenced him was the first to be dispatched, and he was soon thinking clearly again. Zahrah proves her abilities with the scimitar, and between the five of them, the monsters are soon dispatched. Arben is real curious about this, since no one had seen one of these for a thousand years or so, and the magic to create them was rumored to be lost. He piles everyone in a rowboat and heads out to the water. Beau asks a fish to track down a merman and the merman explains that there were rumors about Necrophidii coming from the east. Arben thanks the merman and they row back to shore. Arben jots down a quick note for the always busy Eorl, then heads back out to shore. They catch a ferry to Constantinople.
Once in town, Arben tracks down an herbalist and arranges a weekly exchange of wine for ratsbane. He then joins the rest of the crowd at the Library. Unfortunately, their continued research reveals nothing, which shouldn't be too surprising since two of them are illiterate. They get their stuff together and head back to the docks. As they head through the seedier side of town to the docks, a voice calls out to them from the shadows. "Are you he Danger Gang?"
"Why, yes...I mean, who's asking?"
"We're messegers sent from Zarsimmian". Three cloaked figures come out of an alley.
"What is your message?"
"Zarsimmian says, 'These messengers are here to kill you'".
They ditch their cloaks, revealing three huge Cyclops-kin. They start whipping their giant clubs around, one of which knocks out Beau with one hit. They're knocking out cats left and right. Our boys manage to take down one of them, and a wounded Arben crawls out sight and blows into his pipes of panic. The one-eyed monsters shrivel in terror and run away. Lugurix coup-de-gras the Cyclops-kin before any one can tell him that's not how we do things in the Danger Gang. Now they'll never figure out who the heck Zarsimmian is. They pick themselves up and head back to Chrysopolis.
