Fighting Mummies and more
We prep ourselves before reentering the dungeon, and away we go. Exploration reveals no nearby aboleth, though we kill a bunch of piercers that drop on us. After our Locate Object shows the pendant is out of ranger we decide to check out the mummy that tried to roast Agav as he was heroically rescuing us all. We go into one room and find a passage leading to a chamber that sets off Harald's Detect Undead. There is also a weird humming sound that fills the air, and it gets louder as one enters the passage. Mamun goes to check it out, and sees a bunch of mummies shambling around. He is paralyzed with fear for a few rounds, but since he was well hidden the mummies don't eat him. Instead he comes back and tells everyone the news, and Harald throws up a Wall of Ice to divide the mummies into two smaller groups. We take out a bunch of mummies, and then burn the remains. Harald notices that the shadows on the wall are, well, shadows. They are strangely still, but they come to life when we attack them. After a short combat Saiiq turns them. Then we go off to a room next door. It has a waterfall, and a Super Mummy wearing a crown and amulet. We fight the Super Mummy, kicking his butt. Just when he is about to go down he says "Adro" and disappears. Since he had been cast clerical spells Harald assumes this is his Word of Recall, and the party splits up and runs around the dungeon trying to find him. Alas, the chase is to no avail. Mamun and Saiiq check out the mummy room with the Wall of Ice, and are attacked by the shadows. They both seem unable to hit each other for the five or ten minutes it takes Harald, Afaf, and Ailyll to come back. The group makes short work of the shadows and then decides to wait for the Wall to melt so we can kill the one remianing mummy behind it.
Unfortunantly for us, when the wall melts it reveals eight mummies instead of one. We withdraw into the corridor, and Harald repeatedly Lightning Bolts the column of mummies. One mummy is very sticky, and tries to wrap up Ailyll, but Harald blows him to bits with a Magic Missle. After the fight is wrapped up (hahaha) we see that two passages lead out of the room. The humming is coming from down there. The fearless Mamun decides to go check it out though he is wounded. He sees a very large room filled with undead, all swaying gently to the hum. There are skeletons, shadows, ghouls (or ghasts?), even a wight. Looks great, like a shoe-gazer concert for dead people and unholy abominations. We guess that the mummy behind the wall got his reinforcements from here. We book it before any more dead folks notice we're there.
We go back to the surface to face the disappointed villagers once again. "Did you get the pendant?" they ask. We simply shake our heads and go off to rest and cure our super mummy rot, regular mummy rot, and crotch rot. Then it is back to casting prep spells and hitting the dungeon. This time we decide to take out the Super Mummy first, then look for the aboleth. The fight is tough, and the damn mummy escapes at the last minute via his Word of Recall again. We're too hurt and rotten to go fishing, so we return and rest, vowing to kill this damn mummy for good next time.
We go back, re-prepped and full of all kinds of magic. We have Silence stones so the bastard can't escape this time. Apparently he's been doing his own preparation, since the first thing he does is Dispel all of our jive. Harald keeps Blink, Blur, and Pro Evil out of the twenty or so spells he had on, while Saiiq's Enlarge is the only other effect that survives. Luckily Mamun, Ailyll and Afaf were out of range. The mummy follows up with Holy Word, paralying Ailyll and Saiiq. Mamun and Harald are shielded by Mamun's Silence stone. Harald rushes forward to fight, only to hit an Anti-animal Shell. "Good plan", thinks Harald as he hits the barrier, "but not good enough", as he blinks through and stabs the mummy repeatedly. Mamun cleverly throws his Silence stone next to the mummy, ensuring that he won't get away this time. Harald vs Super Mummy, who will win? Find out next time.
