Najwah grew up in Aleppo as the daughter of the libraian. She was always fascinated by books and scrolls, and loved to look at all the strange scripts and beautiful pictures they contained. She fell in love with the exotic lands she read about, and dreamed of a life of travel and adventure. She learned the arts and sciences from her father's books, and she learned to read the stars as well. When she came of age she decided to indulge her desire for travel, and she demanded to accompany her father's servants on their book aquistion missions. She learned to hide in the background when things got rough, and maybe make the occasional attack from behind, aided by her knowledge of anatomy. When she traveled on chartered ships she was able to save a lot of time by using her book learning to aid navigation. She even convined the occasional captain to attempt open sea crossings, depending on her dead reckoning. Nearing shore after one such trip her ship was attacked by lady pirates. They questioned the captain, demanding to know what magic item he used to cross the tractless sea. He quickly gave up Najwah, and she was taken by the pirates and made to work as navigator. She soon learned that pirates are a magnet for ancient maps and musty scrolls, and she was able to puzzle out the gist of many a dead or unknown language based on similarity to things she had seen growing up. The pirates treated her with respect and admiration, even giving her a cabin to herself and the lofty title of Navigator. When sailing she seemed to always have a sextant in her hand, using it to correct the course constantly. She was given a chance to leave after a year, but she elected to stay instead. She became one of the Widows, and life was good to her. Well, she did have a minor setback when a crazy Irishman cut off her hand during a sea battle, but her shipmates helped to mount a sextant that could take its place. That wasn't so bad. She was glad to join TrapoII's crew, since it seemed that she would be able to resume her title of Navigator.
