After a couple days of resting at the home of Mario the Italian, the Danger Gang is back up on its feet. Can takes a moment to duck off to the local library to see if he can learn anything about Slaad, as it seems they may have specific beef with the Gang. All he can find is something pointing to their point of origin in the forests of what is now the Sahara. He jots a couple of notes and gives them to Mario to pass on to Benvolio if he's interested.

With that, they return to the dungeon in the burnt out church of St. Orinea. They head down to the portculis room, then into the next room. It's full of chests. There are Mithraic robes in some; some chests with copper coins, and a big velvet cloth covering the ground. Karl pulls back the cloth, sure that there is a pit beneath and desirous to reveal it to all. Instead, he sees a mirror with a brass plate in the middle. Out from the mirror rises a bizarro-Karl, the spitting image of the original, but with a wound in the center where the brass plate was. Karl offers his hand in friendship, but the foul clone spits on his offer of friendship.

"Stay out of it," says Padre Pantalone. "This is Karl's fight."

And so begins Karl's deadliest challenge. Never before has he met an opponent against whom he was so perfectly matched: his own clone. They trade blows, and soon the evil Karl is on the verge of victory, but Karl knows the one strength he has that this clone can never claim. That strength is the strength of friendship. Can shoots the clone with a Flame Arrow, smiting it.

"At last I know, I can defeat even myself," Karl says before passing out.

The others take this opportunity to ransack the other chests. There in they find 5 potions. Three of them are an opaque red, one is a green translucent, and the last is a cloudy clear. They help Karl to his feet and head out to find a place to rest.
