Chris: Could the Emir have fallen under the sway of a Spawn of The Sea? That would technically not be ensorcelled, possessed or replaced, I think, and it might explain the new found taste for fish.
Kerry: Certainly possible. They didn't think to ask about "turning into a horrible sea monster" or anything. Heck he could also have sold his soul/drank a potion/performed a horrible ritual to voluntarily become a monster.
