Emil of Echelont

Emil’s the highest-level member of the party (although, he knows, not the most powerful). He’s been adventuring a long time, and he’s in it for the ancient lore. If libraries were better, and full of the right kind of dusty old tomes, he would have been a librarian. As it stands, he gravitated towards adventuring; but this temperament sets him a little apart from the rest of the party, who often seem to love adventuring for its own sake, or who love smiting things, or who love (in Fearless’ case) being in charge. If the adventuring life didn’t give him what he needed, Emil would leave it, and he doubts anyone else in the party could say the same.

His other great passion is an almost paranoid aversion to being spied on or controlled, which is where his mind blank and non-detection spells come in.

Emil likes and trusts just about everyone in the party, and the feeling s pretty much reciprocated (he does have an awesome charisma). He’s no fool, and is not about to let Fearless or Dark Deedman get into a position of power over him, but he’s known them both a long time, and they haven’t screwed him yet. Chance he doesn’t know as well as the others, but the guy’s a lot of fun. Oakenliver and KL are utterly dependable, Hemlock is a good sort, and even Sliver, a relative stranger, he considers a valuable member of the team, and a good person, and he would fight and die for her. He’s also very protective of his rug, which he likes to fly around on, and which he considers a kind of semi-sentient pet.

Emil always looks like he’s dressed nicely, and in the pervading style of wherever he may be at the time; but this is just his hat of disguise talking; really he’s dressed comfortably, and his clothes are perforce bloodstained and tattered.

Since Emil is more interested in learning the forbidden secrets of eld than hacking and slashing, he’d prefer to avoid combat, and, in fact, to have his party avoid combat. However, he’s not very good at that, and his low wisdom is forever getting him into scrapes that even his high charisma cannot get him out of, and he is not above swinging a sword if need be; in fact, if he casts Tenser’s Transformation on himself, he becomes a fighter the equal of any in the party (although he knows that Tenser’s Transformation is a dangerous spell, as the doubled damage makes it easy not to fall unconscious but rather to die).
