He was the founder of Islam and is regarded by Muslims as the last messenger and prophet of Allah. Muslims believe that he was not the creator of a new religion, but the restorer of the original, uncorrupted monotheistic faith of Adam, Abraham and others. They see him as the last and the greatest in a series of prophets.

In his youth, he was called by the nickname al-Amin, which means "faithful" or "trustworthy."

He made a pilgrimage to Mecca, now called the "hajj," which all able-bodied Muslims must make at least once before dying, if at all possible. Ali al-Hajjad made this pilgrimage, therefore securing his place in the afterlife.
