Mummy's Note
From Record Of Fantasy Adventure Venture
Found on the Mummy Island within the Greek Islands.
Here lies Hypatia, the wisest and greatest of women, murdered by Nazarenes 1168 a.u.c. Her corpse, lest it be defiled, has been moved to this desolate island, and, as her final revenge on the world that turned from her and the old ways, she lays this curse on all who set foot on her resting place. Even as your footsteps disturb my sleep shall I disturb your bodies; by the ancient knowledge that dies with me I most terribly curse all visitors, that their flesh will wither to ruin, without release or respite, until they die, and no cure shall be found in any corner of the earth, save in the justice I wield, and the alchemy of my gold. So do I revenge myself upon the world.
The Scales of Disease Curing (see Items of Note) came from this island.
The most interesting thing about this epitaph is the mention of "the old ways." This Hypatia was a pagan mage or cleric who met with a violent end at the hands of Christians.
