The Danger Gang Visits Vatopedia
After sailing to the other side of the peninsula, the Danger Gang arrives at Vatopedia, another colony of monks. Since it's on the same peninsula, ladies are still not allowed, so Hush and Zahrah stay on the boat.
Inside the walls of Vatopedia, a monk decides to lay it out.
Monk: "Alright, you guys are clearly the Danger Gang, right?"
Martialis: "Yeah, well, we heard some things, there might be some danger around here."
Monk: "No, no there is no danger. We're doing just fine."
Martialis: "Well, it's just we heard there were some demons here..."
Monk: "Yeah, they've been here for years, there not going anywhere."
Gershom: "Demons, I'd really like to talk to those guys."
Monk: "You can't talk to them."
Martialis: "Well, we heard there were some snakes."
Monk: "There were some snakes, but we chased them in a hole and sealed it off. It's fine. There's no danger here. It was like, fifty years ago."
Martialis: "Do you know what happens when you leave a snake in the dark? Where is this? There's danger afoot."
The monk begrudgingly points them in the direction of the snake hole. The gang rushes off. Once there, they surround the hole and Karl lifts up the old tree stump. Out pop two Bolas, both ready for action. Karl tries to drop the stump on their dumb heads, but they are too quick. One wraps itself around Marty and starts squeezing. Can takes care of the other one with his patented Color Spray. Kotrag starts whomping on that one with his whomping stick. Karl looks at the other one, and its crazy eyes make him crazy nauseous. Another Color Spray puts that guy down for the count and they chop them up. Karl is still feeling pretty crappy though. They throw a Cure Light Wounds at him, and not only does that not take care of the nausea, he doesn't even get any hit points back. They figure they'll see how he's looking tomorrow.
They return to Vatopedia. Gershom continues to ask if they can go see these captured demons, and the monk continues to refuse. He claims, and it makes sense, that if you talk to the demons, they can end up tricking you into letting them out, and if you kill them, you just end up sending them back to their home plane and then they can just come back to keep bugging you. It's hard to argue with this logic, especially since this monk refuses to even consider the idea. He does give them a tour of the facilities though, showing them the assorted relics of the monastery. There's a miraculous bush, the Virgin Mary's Belt and a big Jasper cup. Everybody wants to know what these things do, and Karl is especially interested in the gemstone cup, but the monk doesn't have any answers for these rude tourists. He does let it slip that one of the demons is rumored to have a dog head and a second, smaller set of arms coming out of his chest. He also mentions that he knows that crazy guy that hangs out around Orinopolis. His name is Olympiadorus and he's been going there for a few months.
They thank him for the info and the time and then head back to the Kivot. They hang up their hammocks and hit the sack for the night.
