    In the land of the Rus, Mokosa spoke to Iaga and me and offered us both the choice to be tied to the land
    and be free of time; Iaga chose it, and had I been asked a year earlier, when the child was stillborn,
    perhaps I would have as well. But the words of Mokosa troubled me, and although the midwives swore I
    would never again bear a child, I could not give up hope by removing myself from the cycle of life and
    death, as Iaga has. And I could not be bound to Rus forever, for the world is too wide, and I have seen
    but a tiny splinter of it. And now I learn that the words of Mokosa were true, and there do stand here
    ancient triangles of stone that could never have been built by men.
    
    I have already learned the magics, the loen lanketa, and power of the silman kantia. Now I will travel to
    the south to see what there is to learn, and if other triangles have been built there. There are sights
    and strange peoples and korankonolanar I would see. I will learn if Mokosa has reason to be worried. And
    in the name of Uko, and for my love of the child whom I have named Varaka regardless, I vow this: that I
    will save her if she is in danger. And my short life will be greater than Iaga’s long one.
