[from a sacred miscellany in the library of Cairo]

The idolaters claim that they possess, in Jambud Wif, the only footprints of Adam not washed away in the flood. May the darkness in which they dwell be washed away by his worthy example! Yet in the lands of the blessed are there not also sacred footprints? And only water poured from the skull of the son of Adam will reveal them! And only up the rungs, up the pillar, and leap to the next, will bring one to the castle of Shem!

There lies Shem, who had sought just this skull, clad in the seven veils of the rainbow. There one must leap as a cymbal crashes. There sleeps the worthy one, ancestor of the Prophet!

From footstep to footstep is a voyage across the sea. In those days what long legs did they have!

So it is written!
