The Danger Gang make themselves at home in a wizard's tower

In the morning, the Danger Gang takes their leave of Syrdon and resumes their flight to the Caspian. They head east, flying over the mountain ranges. Zombres reveals that he picked up the Ring of Hiordis in Chrysopolis, allowing him to make full use of his variable-length flying spells.

Around midday they pass a curious sight -- a field full of saddled boars, quietly grazing. There is no indication nearby of what might ride a boar and while their curiousity is piqued, they decide to let it go unexplored.

After travelling for most of the day, the Gang encounters something too tasty to pass up -- a tower in the middle of otherwise featureless mountain terrain. They fly close enough to see that there are windows, although on inspection they prove illusory. It seems there is only one real entrance from the ground floor, so they decide to go in through the roof.

No sooner has Karl Shinyhands taken a pickaxe to the slate then four bizarre creatures resolve in the air around him and leap to attack. They are:

  • A batwinged freak
  • A flying babykins
  • A bug-eyed insectosaur
  • A grumpy poop monster

A melee ensues and goes on a little longer than it probably should have needed to, as the fiends reveal they have strange and annoying powers to confuse and alarm. Ultimately they are defeated, and the Danger Gang is soon entering the laboratory of some long-vacant wizard's tower. They find a laboratory on the top floor, complete with a few leftover potions, a case for a fancy ring and a list which reads:

   1. Plunder Qayduk
   2. Kill ibn Abdul Rahman
   3. borrow chariot of air from Lubaba
   4. to Oqba's clockworks

Curious. The Gang hacks the rest of the tower, but finds nothing more than living quarters and a foyer. The living quarters contain a bed that seems to have been used as a bivouac for four evil wizard's familiars for two hundred years or so. Still, though, a bed is a bed, and the party makes the best of it, camping out until the following day.
