Borevin is Olga’s eldest son; he was well on his way to following in his father’s footsteps and becoming the best lockpick in Novgorod when his dad died and they had to move. Realizing that he had to take over the role of man of the household, Borevin handled the whole thing with a stiff upper lip, which resulted in a cynicism slowly settling over his soul and causing his mother to worry. How much of his brooding is suppressed grief and how much is typical coming-of-age angst is unclear, but he has grown distant from his brother, on whom he sloughed off many of his duties looking after their baby brother while their mother deals with important Thief Taker business.
