The Danger Gang Get Some Help In Vergina
After resting with the Doodya, the Danger Gang is decides they could use a little fresh air and some time to figure their next move. They leave the tomb at Aege, with Martialis casting Plant Growth to cover the hole. They head back to the see the friendly farmers at Vergina, hoping for a good hot meal.
They chat up Mrs. F, the farmer's wife, for a little while, and she mentions that a Jewish looking fellow has recently rolled into town. They figure this must be Gershom who had agreed to meet up with them once he was feeling better. They head down to the well and there he is., plain as day. Friendly greetings are exchanged and they invite him back to the farmer's house for dinner. At first Mrs. F is a little off-put by having a Jew at her table, but Arben smoothes things over by trying to get some wine from the dry goods store.
He heads down to the store, and sitting outside is a poor-looking gentleman nibbling on some rotting bread. Arben asks him if he needs some food or anything, and the man responds in a strange Greek dialect that he would be proud to work for food. He introduces himself as Xenon. This man looks fairly muscular, and they were going to need some help dragging those gold cases out of the tomb, especially considering Arben's scrawny arms. It seems a partnership is reached. Arben pops into the store to pick up a cask of wine and some honeyed cakes and Xenon carries them back to the farmer's house.
When they arrive, Gershom recognizes Xenon as the Mummy that he raised from the dead. Everybody starts freaking out because they had been looking for this guy. "We really have to bring this guy back to Eorl," Martialis says. Now, Xenon has a few questions for them. The last thing he remembers was fighting in a great battle, then he was wandering the woods naked. Everyone looks at eachother for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to explain this. Arben decides to go for the direct approach, "You've been dead for a thousand years or so. Welcome to world of tomorrow!"
Xenon is, needless to say, distraught to hear that everyone he loved is dead and the kingdom he so valiantly gave his life for has fallen, but only after cursing him with a thousand years of undeath. "On the plus side," says Martialis "now you get a clean slate." They then show him some of the neat advancements made in the last thousand years, advancements like iron weapons and chainmail. He grabs a glass of wine and a honeyed cake and mulls this over.
Can, Martialis, and Arben take a moment to discuss their next move. They want to get some supplies and propper equipment for Xenon, but they can't do that here, so they agree to head to Thessaloniki. While they're there, they can also check on the states of Lleryn and Brother Peter and see if the boat from Chrysopolis has arrived. They apologize to Gershom for not being able to return to Aege right away, but promise to go back soon. They thank the farmers and begin the ride out to Thessaloniki.
