Sphynx

Another mixed creature with the head of a human and the body of a lion. Sometimes, the wings of an eagle may also be present.

Half of the Island Party encountered a handful of these when searching the Greek Islands for stone-to-flesh scroll. They provided three of them after making us solve a riddle. These Greek Island Sphinxes are ruled by an Andro-Sphynx known as the Father Of Terror.

The Byzantine Envoys encountered two groups of sphinxes in the Tarot Dungeon. Both groups had their tongues cut out and kept in a bundle nearby. The first group were all females with the heads of lionesses. The second group, located past the statue of the High Priestess, had the heads of rams rather than humans except for one, who was a standard male sphynx.

There seems to be another species that has a ram's head instead of a human one. The one randomly encountered spoke Arabic and seemed quite lovelorn.
